What it looks like
Leaves wilt and hang limp/papery-thin while the medium is DRY and the pot feels light. After watering, the plant perks back up within hours — the quickest confirmation.
Symptoms
- Wilting, limp, thin leaves
- Dry, light pot
- Leaves crisp at the edges if chronic
- Rapid recovery after watering
Causes
- Watering too little or too infrequently
- Root-bound plant drinking fast
- Hot/dry room raising water demand
- Hydrophobic dried-out medium repelling water
How to fix it
- 1Water thoroughly until ~10–20% runoff
- 2If the medium is hydrophobic, water slowly in stages or briefly bottom-soak
- 3Move to a slightly bigger pot if root-bound
Prevention
- Water on dry-back by pot weight
- Up-pot before the plant gets root-bound
- Manage room temp/humidity to keep water demand sane
