Environment

Sour Diesel tends to prefer a moderately warm environment — roughly in the 72–82°F (22–28°C) range during lights-on, with a modest night drop. Relative humidity is best kept moderate during veg (50–60%) and dialed down meaningfully in flower (40–50%) to account for the longer flowering period. Good VPD management and strong, consistent airflow are important given how tall and open this cultivar grows — stagnant air around lower canopy and bud sites should be avoided. It generally tolerates slightly lower humidity better than higher.

Training & canopy

Sour Diesel's sativa-dominant structure makes it an excellent candidate for aggressive early topping and LST (low-stress training) to control height and encourage lateral branching before the flip. SCROG (screen of green) works well and is often the preferred method indoors — the open structure fills a net effectively and allows good light penetration to lower bud sites. Topping early (at the 4th–5th node) and giving ample veg time to recover and branch out is a common approach. Avoid flipping to flower without first managing height, as stretch can easily double or more during early flower.

Flowering

Sour Diesel is widely reported to be a longer-flowering cultivar — often cited in the 10–13 week range, though exact timing varies by phenotype and should be confirmed by trichome development rather than calendar alone. Expect significant stretch in the first 2–4 weeks of flower — potentially 2× or even more from flip height — so leaving generous canopy-to-light headroom is essential. Bud structure tends to be elongated and somewhat loose rather than dense and compact, which is typical of sativa-leaning genetics. Resin development often becomes apparent mid-flower, building through the final weeks. Harvest windows can be subtle; watching trichomes carefully is advised.
